Interactive Highway Safety Design Model (IHSDM) 2021 Software Release Webinar

An FHWA-hosted data-driven safety analysis (DDSA) webinar on IHSDM 2021 entitled “New Intersection Models Support DDSA” was held on October 18, 2021, to introduce the IHSDM 2021 software release. The software includes new crash prediction capabilities for intersection types not covered in the first edition of the Highway Safety Manual (HSM), based on methods developed under the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Project 17-68 for inclusion in the future, second edition of the HSM. The IHSDM 2021 release marks the end of FHWA’s long-term IHSDM software development. In addition to an overview of the new intersection crash prediction methods, the webinar conveyed FHWA’s plans for the future distribution of IHSDM and for continuing to provide technical support and training to IHSDM users. A recording of the webinar is available here.

IHSDM 2020 Software Release Webinar

An FHWA-hosted DDSA webinar on IHSDM 2020 entitled “New Enhancements Support DDSA” was held on October 28, 2020, to introduce the IHSDM 2020 software release. The webinar explored what is new in the IHSDM 2020 release, how the tool can support DDSA initiatives by implementing HSM predictive methods, and the latest IHSDM enhancements that will assist users in entering and editing data and provide more flexibility in performing crash prediction evaluations. A recording of the webinar can be accessed here.

IHSDM 2019 Software Release Webinar

An FHWA-hosted DDSA webinar on IHSDM 2019 entitled “New Enhancements Support DDSA” was held on November 7, 2019, to introduce the IHSDM 2019 software release. The webinar focused on recent enhancements to the IHSDM software, including:

  • New roundabout crash prediction methods, which were developed under NCHRP Project 17-70 and documented in NCHRP Research Report 888 (Development of Roundabout Crash Prediction Models and Methods).
  • User-defined crash modification factors (UDCMFs)—new capability for users to define and apply user-defined CMFs as part of the crash prediction process.

A recording of the webinar can be accessed here.
