Project Abstract:
This project will capture agency practices and issues to consider when considering and agreeing to integrate the use of emerging sources of data generated from different types of social media sources into the management and operation of a traffic management system (TMS).
Agencies are challenged with integrating and using data from other sources into their TMS. Crowd-sourced data or information from sources other than the TMS often contains data protocol and standards which are different from the TMS. Changes to application programming interface (API), software, and the TMS database or subsystem are often required in support of using data from these other sources. Or APIs are needed when the data that may be archived is used to covert the data into the format required based on the needs for specific decisionmaking processes that may be required for a service, function, or task to be carried out by the TMS.
