Project Abstract:
This project seeks to deliver the ability to utilize the Asphalt Mixture Performance Tester (AMPT) to measure in-place, as-constructed dynamic modulus and fatigue characteristics of pavement layers when lift thickness does not allow the full-size geometry to be obtained from construction.
Goals:
(1) To determine the similarity of cyclic fatigue properties of 38-millimeter (mm) diameter specimens as compared to 100-mm diameter specimens in the AMPT.
(2) To determine the suitability of rapid simplified monotonic test protocol to capture the same or similar fatigue characterization as cyclic fatigue in the AMPT.
