Saxton Transportation Operations Laboratory TO-13005: Development of a Platform Technology for Automated Vehicle Research
Project Information
The contractor shall acquire and support the instrumentation of two new vehicles that would enable Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) research staff and other Saxton Laboratory users to conduct vehicle performance and system testing at Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center. These new vehicles shall be designed with a cooperative adaptive cruise control system (CACC) that will enable research to quantify the benefits of this concept. These vehicles are to be designed specifically for FHWA to have electronic throttle and braking subsystem controls. This shall provide an experimenter with the ability to control a vehicle's acceleration and deceleration through an onboard controller. Enabling vehicle-to-vehicle communications through CACC will allow researchers to conduct experiments on the benefits of this system.
