Premium Materials Evaluation: Epoxy Asphalt
Project Information
Epoxy-modified asphalt is being used overseas as a high-durability material on bridge decks and mainline roadways in New Zealand and the Netherlands. Florida Department of Transportation is beginning to evaluate this material as well, but questions remain as to the root cause of the increased resistance to aging and the ability to recycle this material. Objectives are to provide guidance as to the recyclability, compatibility, optimum dosage, and aging resistance of epoxy-modified asphalt. This technology has high potential to improve the life of open-graded friction courses (OGFCs).
