Multimodal Intelligent Traffic Signal System Prototyping and Field Testing
Project Information
This project builds on phase 1 of the multimodal intelligent traffic signal system (MMITSS) development effort, which conducted the foundational analysis and design necessary to prepare for the development and field testing/demonstration of MMITSS. This project will conduct system and software development that will result in field implementation and testing of MMITSS. MMITSS is a comprehensive traffic signal system taking advantage of the connected vehicle environment for multiple transportation modes, including general passenger vehicles, transit, emergency vehicles, freight vehicles, and pedestrians. The MMITSS incorporates, at a minimum, the following arterial traffic signal applications identified by the dynamic mobility application (DMA) program of the U.S. Department of Transportation: intelligent traffic signal system, transit signal priority, mobile accessible pedestrian signal system, emergency vehicle preemption, and freight signal priority.
Goals:
This project is a continuation of the MMITSS development effort. The objective is to conduct system and software development effort that will result in an actual real-time field implementation for testing and verification of the requirements and estimation of the performance.
