Project Abstract:
Success of a performance specification for asphalt pavements hinges on the ability to characterize the as-built material in a way that relates to long-term field performance. However, simplifications are needed to ensure the test can be conducted in a plant-production setting where results are time-critical. Efficiencies have been identified in the Asphalt Binder and Mixtures Laboratory (ABML). Study seeks to reduce the testing time for 3 geometry types: uniaxial, biaxial, and semi-circular. The end results will be used to provide guidance on reducing testing time for other tests which have potential for performance specification application.
