Inorganic Polymers: Novel Ordinary Portland Cement-free Binders for Transportation Infrastructure
Project Information
Controlled compositional glasses and commercial class F fly ash will be comprehensively characterized for physical and chemical characteristics and phase balance using x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope energy dispersive x-ray, and laser diffraction methods. Electrochemical surface forces apparatus and vertical scanning interferometry methods will be used to quantify aluminosilicate dissolution processes. Outputs from these studies will be used to advance the thermokinetic simulation model and predict rate of reactions and phase balances in inorganic polymer formulations.
Goals:
- Link composition and molecular structure with performance of inorganic polymer binders (IPBs).
- Correlate progress of reaction to microstructure evolution.
- Develop a thermokinetic model to simulate reactions in IPBs.
