Project Abstract:
Federal Highway Administration envisions reducing the construction/maintenance time of new and existing highway structures to increase mobility and safety of the surface transportation system. In reducing the construction/maintenance time, accelerated construction technology and methodologies are essential to the success of this mission. However, applying accelerated bridge construction technology to high-seismicity areas requires more sensitive connection details to accommodate the large ground motions than in other areas. Innovative technologies and their applications are continuously sought to refine and expand connection details and their applicability to enhance seismic performance. This project will develop the necessary bridge connection details to be used in moderate-to-high seismic areas, ensuring constructability as well as effectiveness.
Goals
The objective of this study is to improve the seismic resistance of our highway system by developing seismic design details (to be used in accelerated bridge construction projects).
