Human Factors Truck Platooning Twinning with European Commission Ensemble Project
Project Information
This United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) project is specifically focused on interactions between semi-automated truck platoons and other drivers. The goals of the USDOT project fits neatly into the European Commission (EC) project’s holistic approach to understanding the widespread effects of truck platooning.
Twinning is being pursued for these projects due to a high overlap in research interests and to expand upon limited knowledge regarding a rapidly emerging technology. Both projects are aimed at investigating and recommending solutions for the potential hurdles that face automated truck platooning in the next several years. Success and acceptance of semi-automated truck platooning may set the stage for further progress and development of automated driving technology. By sharing information and broadening the reach and breadth of our research, we improve the ability for both projects to successfully address the challenges of truck platooning before they become a public issue.
The objective of this task order is to share information between project teams by broadening the reach and breadth of our research to successfully address the challenges of truck platooning prior to early deployment.
