Evaluation of Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons and Rapid Flashing Beacons
Project Information
The goal of this project is to evaluate selected pedestrian crossing treatments by gathering and providing potential users' information about the performance of these treatments.
Goals
(1) Determine pedestrian and driver opinions and preferences regarding pedestrian hybrid beacons using surveys and operational tradeoffs of installing the device at varying locations using simulation.
(2) Identify the optimal number and combination of rectangular and circular rapid flashing beacon's characteristics, such as flash pattern/sequence, intensity, size, shape, and positioning by using a combination of techniques, such as detection distance and motorist yielding compliance.
(3) Determine the safety effectiveness of raised crosswalks through the development of a crash modification factor.
