Enhanced Analysis of Falling Weight Deflectometer Data for Use With the Mechanistic-Empirical Flexible Pavement Design and Analysis and Recommendations for Improvements to Falling Weight Deflectometer
Project Information
This project will investigate the ideal loading and response information needed from falling weight deflectometer (FWD) testing to reliably evaluate in-service pavements for use in mechanistic-empirical pavement design and analysis, and recommend enhancements to the current FWD technology and analysis to meet those needs.
Goals
Investigate the feasibility of developing the damaged master curve and unbound material properties directly from dynamic backcalculation of FWD data, with consideration for enhancements to FWD technology for use in the Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG) flexible pavement analysis and rehabilitation design. The effort shall include a comprehensive theoretical analysis to identify the ideal loading and response information needed, current FWD technology and analysis methods and their limitations to meet those requirements, and recommendations for enhancements to overcome those limitations.
