Develop NextScour: Hydraulics Design Tools

Project Information

Project ID:
FHWA-PROJ-21-0052
Project Abstract:

This project involves design improvements for bridge scour, stream stability, and scour countermeasures that incorporates probabilistic design approaches. NextScour recognizes that the phenomenon of scour consists of two major aspects or components;
(a) consideration of water and hydraulic forces (loads), versus
(b) the erosion resistance of soils and their associated geotechnical effects (resistance).

NextScour institutes a new direction; refocusing and aligning those geotechnical and hydraulic components, within a true multi-disciplinary framework, with outcomes that provide more certainty and reduced project costs.
