Asphalt Sustainability Issues: Evaluation of Long-Term Performance of Recycled Additives, Including Recycled Motor Oil, Reclaimed Asphalt Pavements, Reclaimed Asphalt Shingles, and Bioasphalts

Project Information

Project ID:
FHWA-PROJ-09-0048
Project Abstract:

The computer program for calculating solubility parameters is based on (a) elemental composition and aromaticity and (b) group (chemical functional groups) contributions. Solubility parameters for blended material are needed to generate phase behavior diagrams.

Goals

The key project objectives are:

(1) Develop a computer program for calculating solubility parameters of asphalts, asphalt components, and additives.

(2) Use solubility parameters to predict phase behavior tendency of asphalt and asphalt-additive blends.
