Acquiring Connected and Automated Vehicle Performance Datasets
Project Information
The U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) / Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is procuring datasets that document how connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) operate in traffic and how adjacent vehicles, both human-driven and other CAVs, behave in the presence of the subject CAV. These datasets, collected on arterials or freeways, shall capture data variables for both the instrumented CAV and the adjacent CAVs and human-driven vehicles in the traffic stream, as described in Section 5 of this document. These datasets shall be “research-ready” and not require additional post-processing, upon delivery to FHWA, to build models of both CAV driving behavior and the behavior of human-driven vehicles in the presence of CAVs. These datasets shall have clear data ownership rights, enabling FHWA to publish the datasets for public access and use, excluding proprietary and personally identifiable information (PII).
