Key Project Goals
- Develop a National Bridge Traffic Database
- Determine and quantify influence of trucks on bridge component performance
- Develop protocols for collecting research quality bridge traffic data
- Develop tools and products that bridge owners can use to manage and operate loading conditions on existing network of highway bridges
Project Contract Awarded
- FHWA LTBP IDIQ Contractors submitted proposals for ‘proof of concept’ task order
- Pennoni Associates awarded 2-year contract in November 2013
Project Details
- Conduct literature review of WIM data collection systems
- Identify best technologies for collecting necessary data
- Identify best locations for data collection and # of sites
- Develop protocols for collecting research quality bridge traffic data
- Synthesize all findings and conduct workshop
- Collect data for 2 years at select sites
- Maintain systems, analyze data
- Store data in format appropriate for Bridge Portal
