Transportation Research Informatics Platform (TRIP) Maturity and Use Case Performance Support

Project Information

Project ID:
FHWA-PROJ-20-0041
Project Abstract:

The Transportation Research Informatics Platform (TRIP) uses artificial intelligence (AI) and open source tools to exploit and integrate new sources of data – ‘messy’ data that are disparate, structured, and unstructured – to transform analysis to improve safety, streamline planning, and enhance congestion management practices. The TRIP project was performed under Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Contract No. DTFH6115C00016. A final report on TRIP is published and available as FHWA Document No. FHWA-HRT-19-008.

The objective of this effort is to enhance the technical maturity of TRIP through the development of a roadway safety use case and a highway operations use case that apply large data sets from disparate sources, including sources outside of common transportation infrastructure owner-operators. The objective of this task is to raise the technology readiness level (TRL) of TRIP from Level 5 to Level 8 or greater.
