Structural Performance of a Novel Ultra-High Performance Concrete Composite Connection
Project Information
This project focuses on assessing the structural performance of a novel ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) composite connections between prefabricated deck and girder components. The program includes the physical testing of two full-scale test specimens, each of which includes two unique subspecimens. Cyclic and static structural loadings are to be applied to the test specimens in order to assess service and ultimate level performance.
Goals
The key project objective is to investigate the performance of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) when used as a field-cast grout in the composite connection between prefabricated bridge decks and girders. The goal is to facilitate the use of prefabricated bridge elements and systems (PBES) technology by engaging advanced cementitious materials to address specific concerns, which hinder widespread use of prefabricated bridge elements and systems (PBES). The novel connection detail has the potential to greatly enhance the use of prefabricated concrete bridge decks.
