Structural Adhesives for Steel Bridges

Project Information

Project ID:
FHWA-PROJ-19-0086
Project Abstract:

This project investigates the potential use of structural epoxy at the interface of bolted steel connections to enhance the load carrying capacity at the service limit state.  The effect of commercially available structural epoxies on the short-term static slip coefficient, long term creep deformations, and pretensioned bolt relaxation will be evaluated.  Candidate epoxy materials which are found to increase the static slip coefficient will be further evaluated for the effect of exposure to various temperatures and humidities over time.
