Simultaneous Structural and Environmental Loading of an Ultra-High Performance Concrete Component
Project Information
This project focuses on beginning to assess the long-term structural performance of an ultra-high performance concrete component, which is continuously subjected to both cyclic structural loading in an aggressive environment. An ultra-high performance concrete beam was loaded cyclically in flexure for 500,000 cycles over the course of 5 months while simultaneously having a sodium chloride solution applied to the cracked tensile face of the beam.
Goals
The key project objective is to investigate performance of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) when subjected to large structural loadings in the presence of an aggressive environment. The goal is to facilitate applicable use of this advanced cementitious material in the bridge inventory.
