Pavement Shear Strain Response To Dual and Wide-Base Tires

Project Information

Project ID:
FHWA-PROJ-09-0025
Project Abstract:

Analyze data from instrumented pavement sections loaded by a truck equipped with both dual- and wide-base tires in hot weather conditions. The data was collected from the Specific Pavement Study (SPS)-8 sections at the Ohio test road. Data would be used to show relative shear strains induced near the pavement surface to validate existing models for use in next-generation mechanistic-empirical pavement design. This could lead to more reliable performance prediction, especially regarding longitudinal cracking.

Goals

The key objective is to determine differences in the asphalt concrete shear strain response in hot weather, resulting from different tire configurations under the same loading.
