Development of Nondestructive Evaluation Field Test Method for Alkali-Silica Reaction Detection and Identification of Cost-Effective Materials for Rehabilitation of Structures Affected
Project Information
This research study will identify/develop a combination of nondestructive and destructive methods to evaluate the present and future concrete deterioration for field concrete structures affected by alkali-silica reactivity (ASR). The research will also identify procedures and materials to rehabilitate concrete structures' deterioration due to the presence of ASR to extend their service life.
Goals:
The key project objectives are to:
- Develop nondestructive field test methods to evaluate concrete structures for presence of alkali-silica reactivity (ASR), estimate deterioration rate, and predict total expansion.
- Develop cost-effective methods to control alkali-silica reactivity (ASR) and extend the service life of existing highway structures.
