Project Abstract:

The primary objective of this project is to collect a robust dataset about the behavior of an Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International Level 3 (L3), CARMA 3 vehicle and a human driven vehicle (i.e., the subject vehicle(s)) in naturalistic traffic conditions. The collected data must provide complete details regarding the adjacent vehicles surrounding the subject vehicle(s) (e.g., the relative speed and relative spacing of adjacent vehicles in front, behind, and beside the target vehicle(s)). The subject vehicles must be deployed in similar traffic conditions during a data run; for example, one method to achieve similar naturalistic traffic conditions could be to deploy both vehicles on research runs in tandem, with a small time delay between the data collection start time (e.g., 5 minutes).
