Connected Vehicles Pooled Fund Study

Project Information

Project ID:
FHWA-PROJ-09-0015
Project Abstract:

Through a set of pooled fund studies, the Virginia Department of Transportation (DOT) will work with Federal, State, and local departments of transportation to establish a multiphase program to facilitate the development, field demonstration, and deployment of connected vehicle infrastructure applications. The participants in this program will complete applied research to create deployable connected vehicle infrastructure applications.

The purpose of this program was to provide a means to conduct the work necessary for infrastructure providers to play a leading role in connected vehicles, as described in the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials' (AASHTO) strategic plan. All efforts will be coordinated with the partners currently engaged in the Connected Vehicles program, namely the U.S. DOT and automobile manufacturers. Pooled fund members include Virginia, California, Florida, Michigan, New York, Wisconsin, Washington, Minnesota, Texas, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maricopa County, and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The membership fee was $50,000. Dynamic Mobility Application Program research in collaboration with Connected Vehicles Pooled Fund Study partners were conducted. Applications research were identified by pooled fund study partners and oversight was conducted by FHWA and pooled fund study partner States.

Goals

The main objective of the Connected Vehicle Transportation Pooled Fund Program Study is to prototype and test practical infrastructure-oriented applications that lead to deployment rather than developing theoretical applications.
