Project Information
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) supported the Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations (AMPO) air quality working group on ongoing technical and capacity building assistance, and continuing management and administration of the air quality working group with FHWA funding and technical support. The air quality working group would continue to serve as a focal point for MPOs to engage with U.S. DOT, the Environmental Protection Agency, other federal agencies and national organizations on air quality and climate change issues.

The workgroup met every 6 months to discuss a variety of air quality issues and to collaborate on ways to advance the practice of transportation and air quality practices, both in the policy and technical arena. Under the direction of AMPO, the air quality workgroup produced 2 white papers and engaged in a number of webinars and conversations with FHWA, EPA, State transportation and air quality agencies, as well as researchers and other practitioners to discuss matters related to the implementation of the Clean Air Act, transportation conformity practices, air quality modeling and analytical practices, and the implementation of the CMAQ program.
