Roadside Invasives
This field guide identifies common and showy roadside invasive grasses and forbs, all of which are on various State noxious weed lists. Several of the plants are native to the US, but are not native to specific geographic areas in which they are known to be invasive. These plants can invade and degrade both agricultural land and natural areas. Invasive plant species are common to many regions of the United States and continue to adapt and move to new habitats, particularly disturbed roadside areas. Many of these plants are also common garden species. For additional information go to:

What are forbs? A more common term for them is "weed". A forb is a non-wooded, broad leaved plant other than grass, especially one growing in a field, prarie, or meadow. A scientific definition would be "herbaceous plant other than those in the Gramineae (truee grasses), Cyperaceae (sedges), and Juncaceae (rushes) families, ie., any nongrass-like plant having little or no woody material". Click on each forb for more information.
