QL-PAY 6.0 (FP-14) Installation Instructions

2016 February

QL-PAY 6.0 requires the .Net Framework Version 4. The .Net Framework may be found at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download. QL-PAY 6.0 was developed on Windows 7 and may not run on other versions of Windows.

Antivirus software may not recognize QL-PAY as a legitimate application; it may prevent installation or prevent it from running correctly. There have been reports of antivirus software interfering with QL-PAY saving data to the hard drive. It is the user's responsibility to set the antivirus software to permit QL-PAY to operate. To do this, the user should refer to the instructions for the particular antivirus program.

Launch the program "instQLPAY.exe" in the root directory of the installation media.

A dialog box will come up with the choices:
   Install for the current user
   Install for all Users
   Cancel

The 'All User' option requires Administrator privileges.

When a user starts QL-PAY for the first time, the program will display a message that it will do a user-specific configuration.

Configuration settings can be changed from subitems of QL-PAY's File menu.

QL-PAY 6.0 Uninstallation Instructions

The QL-PAY uninstall program is accessible from the QL-PAY folder in the Start menu.

When the Uninstall program is launched, it will determine whether it belongs to a Single-User or All-User installation. This information will be displayed and the user will be given a chance to cancel or continue.

The Uninstall program will not remove 'Db', 'Import' or 'Export' directories that are not under the users' QL-PAY tree.

===================
Concurrency of QLPAY v6.0 and v 5.6

QLPAY 6.0 will install "beside" QPLAY 5.6 but cannot share its database.

To migrate data from QL-PAY 5.6 to QL-PAY 6.0, export it from QL-PAY 5.6, then import the Port (.xml) file into QL-PAY 6.0. (Data may be migrated from QL-PAY 6.0 to QL-PAY 5.6 similarly.)

===================
Concurrency of QLPAY v5.6 and v 5.4

QLPAY 5.6 will install "beside" QPLAY 5.4 and by default will share its database.

Uninstalling QLPAY v5.4 will remove the sample database. If you want to preserve the database while uninstalling v5.4:
   1. Find the location of the sample database by looking under QL-PAY's menu item: "File" | "DB (data) directory".
   2. Copy v5.4's qlpf5.qdb file to a safe location such as the desktop.
   3. Uninstall v5.4.
   4. Install v5.6. Do not enter any data.
   5. Find the location of the database by looking under QL-PAY's menu item: "File" | "DB (data) directory".
   6. Copy the version of qlpf5.qdb that you saved in step 2 to this location. v5.6 may have created a new instance of qlpf5.qdb database file; if so, overwrite it.

In both programs, the location of qlpf5.qdb can be found by looking in the menu item "File | Db (data) directory".

===================
Concurrency of QLPAY v5.4 and v 5.3

Since the only changes to v5.4 from v5.3 are related to installation and do not affect QL-PAY's operations, it is recommended that users migrate to v5.4 rather than maintain both versions.

For coexistence: Make sure that the v5.4 installation and user configuration directories do not conflict with v5.3 directories. The default installation directories of v5.4 will probably be OK. After v5.4 is installed it can be launched from its menu entry and v5.3 can be launched by its desktop icon.

To migrate v5.3 data and templates to a v5.4 installation: In QL-PAY v5.4, note the path to the Db directory. In v5.3 look in the Defaults menu and note the paths for the Data and Resources directories. Using Windows Explorer, copy the contents of both directories to v5.4's Db directory. (Some files installed for v5.4 will be overwritten.) (If in QL-PAY v5.3 the Data and Resources paths are then set to the new location v5.3 should continue to work.) QL-PAY v5.4 will then use the data and templates inherited from v5.3.

Some settings can be transferred by copying v5.3's QLP.INI file to overwrite v5.4's version in %USERPROFILE&\QLPAY, but the two versions cannot conveniently be made to share the same QLP.INI file on an ongoing basis.
